Justice Department announces historic repatriation of individuals wanted for violent crimes, human smuggling, and drug trafficking.

The United States announced Tuesday it has taken custody of 26 fugitives returned from Mexico to face a wide range of federal and state criminal charges. The group includes high-level leaders of violent drug cartels, a human smuggling organization, and an individual wanted for the murder of a sheriff’s deputy.

Among those now in U.S. custody are key figures from powerful cartels designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), and Cártel del Noreste.
