ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Douglas County correctional officer has been charged with sexual assault against a female inmate, the sheriff’s office said.

Officer Christian Nicholas Joe was arrested after investigators found he carried out a sexual relationship with the inmate, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe had been on the job for only 37 days. He’s facing charges of sexual assault by a correctional officer, aggravated sodomy and violation of oath of office.

The sheriff’s office began investigating Joe on Monday after learning of his alleged misconduct.

Deputies said the charges send “a clear message to all employees that this type of conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
