ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A community dream since 2016, the Memorial Drive Greenway is finally in its design phase, the City of Atlanta announced.

Stretching from the Oakland Cemetery to the edge of Downtown Atlanta, the greenway will turn 8.5 acres into a “people-centered greenspace,” city officials said. Pond & Company, an Atlanta-based construction firm, will lead the project.

“Our Administration’s pillar of making Atlanta a City Built for the Future has always kept preservation and environmental sustainability at the forefront of our city’s growth and progress — which is why I created the first Greenspace Advisory Council," Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement. “Every neighborhood deserves access to quality parks and greenspace, and I am eager to see this project
