Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey wants to increase the city's property tax levy by 7.8% in 2026 to help sustain city services.

The two-term Democratic mayor unveiled his $2 billion budget proposal on Wednesday. He touted it as a "disciplined budget" that will lead to $23 million in "smart savings" and no layoffs or major cuts.

“Great cities aren’t accidents—they are built to last,” Frey said in a statement. “This budget makes disciplined choices to keep Minneapolis strong for the long term. We’re protecting the services residents rely on, investing in programs that work, and building a city that our kids and grandkids will be proud to call home.”
