SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The Syracuse Mets, and whoever sets off fireworks displays at their events, have not had to cough up larger sums of money to put on a show.
But that could change. The City of Syracuse wants to see permit fees go toward its fire department.
Fireworks have been a longstanding tradition for baseball fans at NBT Bank Stadium. But it is one tradition that City Auditor Alexander Marion said should cost more than $25 per year, after performing an audit last year.
Over the past year, the Mayor Ben Walsh has worked with Marion and Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds on a new permit fee structure.
"We believe that a permit fee of about $300 is appropriate and fair," Marion said. "That covers the personnel costs that our fire department will have to deploy in service of
