Newnan City Council members held a work session after their meeting Tuesday to discuss two zoning requests, both of which they have heard about before.

The first was originally requested by Coweta County. The county requested the city annex county-owned property at Newnan Crossing Bypass and Turkey Creek Road on which it intends to build a new county administration building.

According to the state constitution, all county business must be conducted in the county seat. In Coweta County, the county seat is Newnan.

Since the property is not contiguous with the city limits, the council members agreed in March to ask state legislators to approve the annexation. The legislators approved the annexation, and Gov. Brian Kemp signed it into law on May 13.
