PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Dry farming sounds like a contradiction in terms. But it's actually a growing trend to teach farmers how to do more with less -- specifically less water.

Lane Selman, an Oregon State University assistant professor in the horticulture department, spoke with KOIN 6 News about dry farming, which is more than a concept.

"Dry farming basically means that you are farming with irrigation at a certain point in your growing season," Selman said. "The idea is that you are preparing your field and you're prepping your farming area so that it is the most conducive to holding moisture when we get a lot of moisture in our natural environment."
