LANSING — Leaders of the Michigan House and Senate say they haven’t spoken to one another in more than a month as lawmakers continue to disagree on spending priorities in the state budget.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and Republican House Speaker Matt Hall each blamed the other Wednesday for not negotiating in good faith, weeks after the Legislature was supposed to pass their education plan.
“We need to be met where we’re at so that we can get this process going. And this is completely avoidable stress that we are putting the constituents of our state under,” said Brinks, (D) District 29, Grand Rapids.
