MONROE, La. (KNOE) - School is back in session for much of the ArkLaMiss, and that means back-to-school scams are in full swing.
“So at a time when families are strapped for money, for groceries or for just everyday expenses, everyone’s looking for a way to help supplement their income,” Monroe Regions Bank Manager Ben Westerburg said. “Well, a bad guy will come along, especially online and prey upon that need, and use the individual as a guinea pig for their scheme, thinking they’re also going to get some money for it.”
Westerburg says one of the biggest scams include receiving a scholarship you didn’t apply for, fraudulent school housing websites and connecting to unsecured networks on campus.
“If anyone ever gives you a story that sounds too good to be true, guess what?,” Westerburg
