LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - It has been two years since the gruesome murders of Sylvia and Brianna Ramos . Now, the trial for the man accused of their deaths is approaching.

Rene Mendez’s final court hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, in the 341st District Court, with his trial beginning on Monday, August 18.

In 2023, both Sylvia and Brianna Ramos were found dead in their apartment on the 2600 block of Lomas del Sur.

Mendez was later discovered in a motel in North Laredo and was taken to the hospital after a reported overdose.

After his recovery, he was taken to the Webb County Jail, where he remains.
