DICKINSON, ND (KXNET) — As President Donald Trump continues with plans to eliminate federal workers, the chief of the Forest Service says they've had some staffers already leave.

This week, U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz discussed current staffing levels and office closures in the United States.

The Forest Service has been under a hiring freeze since November of last year, which is expected to impact seasonal workers around the country, but Schultz says North Dakota won't see a noticeable impact.

"Fully staffed is always a difficult question when it comes to firefighting," Schultz said. "We did have people who took early retirement. So, yeah, we've had across the agency, we have about a 25% reduction in non-fire personnel. And it varies state by state. I don't know the exact numb
