WEST POINT, New York (WABC) -- West Point Garrison honored a 10-year-old girl for saving the life of her baby sister after she started choking.
Maya Ozuna, 10, received an honor from the West Point Garrison.
Last month, her sister started choking. Ozuna rushed in and performed CPR, and also called 911, and got the attention of all nearby adults despite a language barrier.
Officials at West Point applauded her for her strength, resilience and courage.
"It's not everyday when someone gets to save a life," said a soldier at West Point Garrison. "Alright, and especially when that somebody is 10. And it's their sister having to talk to paramedics on the phone and describe... and then to take action to do something to help. That's really special."
