PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon Health Authority has issued a health advisory warning people and pets to stay out of Ross Island Lagoon and a stretch of the Willamette River out to Sauvie Island due to a toxic algae bloom.
OHA issued the recreational use health advisory Wednesday for the Willamette River south of the Ross Island Lagoon and downriver to Ross Island Bridge, as well as for the lagoon itself. That was expanded downriver Thursday to Wapato Bridge and Kelley Point Park.
In addition to the recreational advisory, health officials recommend not fishing in the area or drinking the water.
OHA staff confirmed that a cyanobacteria bloom was present in the water after DEQ staff took photos of the water while collecting samples for lab testing. The testing will either confirm the advis
