The doors are opening on a new beginning in Hanover township. A new fire department is now twice the size of the old one and will allow firefighters and EMS to handle an emergency more efficiently.

"It has a place for an ambulance which our former fire station did not," John Zehentbauer said. "That was important because in order to offer ambulance service, EMS services to our residents, we had to have a place to park an ambulance," he said.

It took a 3.1 mill levy to bring it all together and Zehentbauer said passed with 60 percent of the vote.

"It generates about $525,000 a year. Out of that levy, we were able to borrow about $2.5 million dollars over 10 years and that afforded us to make payments on this fire station you see here," he said.
