PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Sunrises are getting later and sunsets are getting earlier as the summer season slowly slips away from the Pacific Northwest.
Portland's average daytime highs are starting to cool as daylight hours quickly shrink during the month of August. A total of 85 minutes of daylight is lost during the month of August in Portland. The first day of the month puts sunrise and sunset times in the Rose City at 5:55 a.m. and 8:38 p.m. As the northern hemisphere continues to tilt away from the sun, the new sunrise/sunset times for the final day of August are 6:31 a.m. and 7:49 p.m.
August sees the third greatest loss of light of the year, behind September at 89 minutes and October at 91 minutes. This decrease in daylight time helps cool temperatures move towards the autumn month
