HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A major milestone in redevelopment of Aloha Stadium came with a disappointment for football fans.
The Stadium Authority approved an agreement with a developer Wednesday, but also delayed reopening of the stadium from fall of 2028, in time for the University of Hawaii football season, to March 2029.
The Authority’s former chair, Brennon Morioka, said the Authority wanted to avoid the prospect of having to repeatedly push back an unrealistic date and harming the projects reputation.
“We didn’t want to set an aggressive date and then we go through construction, start not hitting certain dates and milestones, and then it’s the public starts talking about, ‘Oh, there we go again,’” he said.
