HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Fire crews rescued a 19-year-old male hiker off of the Moanalua Middle Ridge Trail Thursday night.

Rescue crews said the man had allegedly been hiking for about six hours but was unable to make it back down the trail, despite help from friends.

HFD crews reached the hiker by helicopter just before 8 p.m. and airlifted him to a nearby landing zone.

EMS said the hiker had suffered possible dehydration accompanied with severe leg cramps. He was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Officials warn hikers to prepare for Hawaii’s trail hikes accordingly with food, water, and appropriate hiking gear, especially during the hotter summer climate.
