TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Leon County Schools said it was told on Tuesday that the Florida Department of Education shorted them half a million dollars in its 21st Century grant, impacting its after-school programs.
The ten schools served through the grant are seeing a $250,000 impact. United Way serves four others and now faces a $260,000 cut.
Brooke Brunner, director of LCS’s Early Childhood Programs, said the decrease in funding will impact its programs.
“For one of our programs, in particular, a middle school that is already in a cohort that is receiving less funding than all of the other programs, we would not be able to afford staffing to serve the students in the program, so it’s a very profound impact,” Brunner said.
