CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Mayor Pureval broke down the city’s approach to public safety Wednesday, which has become a national talking point after videos of a Downtown brawl went viral on social media.

He says the real public safety concerns are gun violence and property crime.

“We take violent crime very seriously. It’s our number one issue here at city hall,” Pureval said. “We know that the perception of safety is important, and we know that Cincinnati needs to get safer and we are deadly serious about making that happen.”

According to crime data, yearly totals for serious violent crime and property crime show a 48% increase compared to 2024, from 482 to 715.

There’s been a 38% increase for the year in serious violent and property crime from 465 to 644 offenses.
