The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 7:57 p.m. on Wednesday for strong thunderstorms until 8:45 p.m. for Suffolk and Nassau counties.
The storms are packing marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) and wind gusts of up to 30 mph.
"At 7:57 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Oyster Bay, moving east at 25 mph," describes the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible."
Locations impacted by the alert include Commack, Huntington Station, Hauppauge, Syosset, Huntington, Northport, Oyster Bay, Dix Hills, Smithtown, Woodbury, Bayville, Centerport, Cold Spring Harbor, East Northport and Kings Park.
