The new owners of Waterworld have issued a statement after a four-year-old girl died after being found unconscious at the site.

The attraction had been purchased by Looping Group on July 31, just days before the tragedy on August 4.

The girl was found unconscious in the lagoon area and was rushed to hospital where she sadly died.

Laurent Bruloy, executive chairman and co-founder of the Looping Group, added that his 'thoughts and sympathy' were with her family

Mr Bruloy told StokeonTrentLive: "The deal was finalised on July 31 and although Looping Group has been pleased to welcome the park in the Looping group family, we have all been saddened by the recent tragic accident and extend our deepest thoughts and sympathy to the family of the young girl involved and stand by the Waterworld
