CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval met with the media Wednesday to discuss the city’s approach to public safety.

The topic has become a national talking point this summer after videos of a Downtown brawl went viral.

The real public safety concerns, he said, are gun violence and property crime.

“We take violent crime very seriously. It’s our number one issue here at city hall,” Pureval said. “We know that the perception of safety is important, and we know that Cincinnati needs to get safer and we are deadly serious about making that happen.”

According to city crime data, yearly totals for serious violent crime and property crime show a 48% increase compared to 2024, from 482 to 715.
