PORTSMOUTH/BRISTOL — It’s detour time.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 and continuing until early Monday, Aug. 18, the Mt. Hope Bridge will be closed to traffic for a much-needed repaving job.
“Everyone’s complaining that it’s pretty bumpy. It needs to be done,” Lori Caron Silveira, executive director of the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA), said during the most recent episode of “Portsmouth This Week,” the town’s public access cable show.
According to Eric Seabury, RITBA’s director of engineering, there is nothing structurally wrong with the bridge. “The only issue with the bridge deck is rideability. There is no structural issue with the bridge deck,” Seabury said during the show, which is hosted by Conley Zani.
