Man shot dead inside bedroom of south Birmingham apartment; suspect in custody

A man was shot to death inside a south Birmingham apartment in what police say was a domestic incident.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Demetrice Darnell Beverly. He was 39 and lived in Birmingham.

South Precinct officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday to a 911 call of a person shot in the 1100 block of Lakeshore Ridge, which is Lakeshore Ridge Apartments.

Police went into the apartment and found Beverly unresponsive in the apartment’s bedroom. He had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:26 p.m. by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said a female witness is the person who called 911.

The shooter, also an adult male, was taken into custody in the parking lot.
