WASHINGTON (WV News) — The Honor Flight leaving North Central West Virginia will be a little different this year.
Instead of 100 veterans and their caregivers flying to Washington, D.C., for a day, 20 veterans and their caregivers will be bused into the capital for a full weekend.
"When we started our hub, we were given a mentor from the Virginia Hub, and I needed to go on a trip with them, and they are also 4 hours from Washington, D.C., and they choose to go by bus," said Honor Flight NCWV Coordinator Billie Jo Claypool.
Honor Flight NCWV was founded after the Huntington-based Honor Flight hub disbanded.
"(Busing veterans is) more cost-effective. And it's a smaller group of veterans, so it's more intimate. And it's slower paced for the veterans so they're not as exhausted," Claypool
