SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- With the 2025-26 school year just around the corner, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has published its annual school bus inspections report for 2025 before students go back to school.
MSHP's Driver and Vehicle Safety Division inspected 11,255 school buses in Missouri over the 2025 inspection period and published the following results: • 10,144 school buses (90.1%) were rated as approved during initial inspections • 799 school buses (7.1%) were rated as defective during initial inspections • 312 school buses (2.8%) were rated as out of service during initial inspections
The biggest school district in southwest Missouri, Springfield R-XII Public Schools, had 97.9% of buses out of 145 inspected for use, with only 2.1% of buses deemed defective.
