The Toledo Lucas County Public Library is considering merging two branches, potentially leading one of them to close, the library’s executive director said on Thursday.

A recommendation by the library to consolidate its Toledo Heights Branch at 423 Shasta Dr. and its Heatherdowns Branch at 3265 Glanzman Rd. will be sent to the Toledo Lucas County Library’s board of directors as part of its master plan on Aug. 28, said Jason Kucsma, executive director and fiscal officer for the library.

If the consolidation moves forward, the Toledo Heights Branch would close in 2026 and the Heatherdowns Branch would remain open while the location for the consolidated branch is under construction, said Stephanie Elton, communications strategist for Toledo Lucas County Public Library.
