BEAUMONT, Texas — A broad area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche is producing disorganized thunderstorms and is forecast to move toward northeastern Mexico or southern Texas by late Friday, potentially bringing heavy rainfall to the region.
The weather system, designated AL98 by meteorologists, currently spans from 19°N to 23°N between 92°W and 94.5°W longitude and is generating "disorganized showers and thunderstorms" with moderate to strong convection, according to the National Hurricane Center.
