(WHTM) -- The official start of fall is just over a month away and peak foliage is even further away, but scientists say they have an idea of what leaf peepers will see this season.
The short answer? It may not be as bright as past years, at least in some areas.
A major factor is rainfall. Some areas of the Midstate have seen a lot, others, not so much.
"The cumulative effects of that are probably going to mean possibly less color since they haven't been as stressed, but its really uncertain," Dr. Michael Meyer, an environmental scientist, said. "It's been a wild year.
Meyer says more rain can equal healthier trees, which can make leaves more colorful.
