CLEVELAND, Oh - I come from a large, close-knit family that often celebrates birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions together. When we go to a restaurant together there are usually 15-20 people.

Every time that my sister plans one of these outings, she picks very nice, but pricey restaurants. I know that we have the option not to attend, but we want to show our support and celebrate with our family members.

Since we had a large group, we were usually told that everything would be on one check. Anticipating this, most of us bring cash to cover our portion of the bill. During this last dinner to celebrate my nephew’s birthday, my sister split the bill evenly amongst the 18 people in attendance.

This caused an argument and family members were extremely upset. My husband and I don’t
