BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) -- The city of Bloomington broke ground last week on phase one of its streetscape project, which was voted on unanimously earlier this year by the city council.
This is the first phase of six for the Downtown for Everyone initiative. The first phase will cost around 13.1 million dollars to complete and will focus on underground infrastructure like sewer pipes, as well as the sidewalks and streetlights to make downtown safer.

The 300 to 600 blocks of North Main Street are currently under construction, but all businesses are still accessible for the duration of the project. Sidewalks are also open for patrons to use.
