PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Some of the most important people handling natural disasters said federal funding cuts have put strains on their operations.
Emergency Management Agencies are local departments that handle natural disaster responses from behind the scenes. They prepare their first responders, schools and other local facilities on what to do when a disaster hits their area.
During a natural disaster, such as a tornado or flood, they coordinate with first responders by managing their movements and help warning the public.
Chris Helle with Fulton County's Emergency Services and Disaster Agency has been working with the County for 21 years. He said the state has received stagnant funding since 2002, with funds not matching inflation or the increasing demand.
