EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) – Ascension St. Vincent celebrated the completion of its $16.8 million renovation project for the labor and delivery unit with a blessing ceremony this week.
After five years and six phases of construction, hospital staff, families, and community members gathered on the third floor to honor the new space designed for mothers and newborns.
Chaplain Deberah Fleck led a prayer service, blessing caregivers and the newly finished rooms, while a cross was placed on the wall to symbolize healing and hope. “May this unit continue to be a place where miracles large and small happen every day,” Fleck said.
Jenny Davis, director of the Mother and Children’s Service Line and a 28-year veteran of the hospital, said the unit hadn’t seen updates in over two decades.
