NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Just two minutes and 24 seconds into being pulled over on July 21, 2024, on suspicion of DUI, Carl Binkley explained why there was a personal reason he wasn’t drunk.
“Six years clean and sober,” Binkley can be heard saying on body camera footage.
“I was a heroin addict for four to five years. Got addicted to pain pills,” Binkley told WSMV4 Investigates . “So with me wearing my recovery on my sleeve and to be proud of how far I’ve come, it was…it was pretty bad.”
And it would get worse.
That body camera shows a state trooper, identified only as Trooper Thompson in court records, saying that they’d received a complaint call about his driving in Coffee County.
“You’re all over the road, you almost hit that semi,” the trooper said in the body camera footage.
