PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A judge has ruled Arizona’s funding for public schools is unconstitutional.
This major ruling could mean big changes in how Arizona funds repairs and renovations to existing schools.
“The ruling is a major win for Arizona’s public school students and teachers,” Attorney General Kris Mayes said. “The court made clear that the state has failed to meet its constitutional duty to adequately fund public schools.”
This lawsuit dates back to 2017 when Glendale Elementary District and others filed a lawsuit against the state over its funding formula for school construction.
With many older schools needing repairs and upgrades across the Valley, education officials and advocates sued.
