TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson needs more affordable housing, but zoning laws may be getting in the way.
In a study done by the city, 35,000 housing units are needed in the next decade to keep up with demand.
One-third of those units need to be subsidized affordable housing funded by the federal government, and another third needs to be median-income housing.
Across the country, zoning laws can make or break a city’s affordable housing supply. Zoning expert Sara Bronin said that this can be especially true in areas that struggle with affordable housing.
