BAR HARBOR, Maine (WMTW) - Acadia National Park is always very busy in the summer, but July was busier than it has been in decades, despite hiring and staffing challenges and concerns about fewer international visitors to Maine.

According to data from the National Park Service , there were 797,030 recreational visitors to Acadia in July, about 6,000 more than July 2023.

It is the most visitors in a single month to the park since August 1989, when 1,045,060 visited.

The vast majority of visitors were to Mount Desert Island, which includes Park Loop Road, Cadillac Mountain and Jordan Pond House. More than 81,000 people visited Schoodic Penninsula.

There were more than 999,500 visitors to Acadia in July 1989 and several summer months between 1983 and 1988 also topped 800,000 visitors.
