COLUMBIA, S.C. — Drivers, bikers, and walkers in Richland County will soon see some big changes on the roads and paths they use every day.

The Transportation Penny Tax, approved by voters in 2012, funds projects across the county aimed at making streets safer and easier to navigate.

One of the biggest ongoing efforts is paving more than two miles of dirt roads in Districts 7 and 10. This includes Larger Street, Smithcreek Road, Goodwin Way, Adams Scott Road, and Springcreek Road.

Residents along these roads say the work can’t come soon enough.

Andre Melvin, who lives along Larger Street, says the unpaved roads can be especially tough during bad weather.
