MADISON (WKOW) – In 2024, Gov. Tony Evers signed new legislative maps into law. These maps changed the ones Republicans drew in 2011, which the liberal State Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional.

Amid gerrymandering battles nationwide in states like California, Texas and New York, groups such as Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition are advocating for permanent changes to the redistricting process.

"Imagine my horror to hear the governor say, well, maybe we should just kind of throw out that work," said Debra Cronmiller, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, in reference to California Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D-CA) decision to put forward new congressional maps for Democrats' gain even though the state currently has an independent redistricting commission.
