CHIPPEWA FALLS (WQOW) - Construction for the new Aspirus Health hospital and clinic in Chippewa Falls is officially underway.
Aspirus Health held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction Thursday.
The new hospital will be on Chippewa Crossing Boulevard, across from Fire Station #1.
The 35,000 sq. ft. facility will house an emergency department with ten treatment rooms and ten inpatient rooms. The on-site clinic will have 12 treatment rooms.
The project aims to help close health care gaps in the region following the closure of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's Hospitals. HSHS cited lower Medicaid reimbursement rates as one of the reasons for the closures. Aspirus said they're prepared for that.
