SOUTHWICK, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Police in Southwick are crediting courageous efforts of first responders and bystanders for saving four lives last month in a car accident still being investigated.
Southwick Police said, on July 29th, they responded to a car that crashed into a tree. It was upside down, on fire, and had four people trapped inside.
One was able to escape with the help of bystanders, while crews worked to save the others and battle the flames. As the fire intensified, officers freed the three and got them away from the car.
Witnesses reported only moments later, the car burst into flames. An officer’s hat also was melted and his beard singed in that process.
