VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) — Multiple fires are burning in Northern Arizona right now, and wildland officials say it’s like a game of whack-a-mole; firefighters get a handle on one, and another pops up right around the corner.
The Woods Fire , burning near the Village of Oak Creek, is currently at 55 acres. Meanwhile, the Washington Fire north of Payson is at 300 acres with no containment.
Finally, the Dragon Bravo Fire is now the largest in the Grand Canyon’s history, burning over 144,000 acres with 54% containment.
U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Brady Smith said a quick response is crucial, given the extremely dry fuels and some fires’ proximity to communities where people live and work.
