PARMA, Ohio — When Bob Berry purchased the Hot Dog Diner & Burger Co. in Parma, his original plan was to relocate the business to Brunswick. Instead, overwhelming community support convinced him to keep the 25-year neighborhood institution right where it was.

Community support changed the owner’s relocation plans

Berry initially intended to move Hot Dog Diner to Brunswick after purchasing it in May. However, neighborhood residents rallied to keep the 25-year institution in Parma. As Berry and his team cleaned the space, locals repeatedly asked when the diner would reopen and urged him to stay. “I would say we’re going to Brunswick and they’d be like, ‘No, stay here!’” Berry recalled, explaining that this unexpected community response ultimately led him to choose “people over our person
