MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Tropical Storm Erin continues to strengthen in the Atlantic. As of this writing, the storm had a maximum sustained wind of 70 miles per hour and was moving to the west at 17 miles per hour.

The storm is forecast to continue moving to the west, northwest into the weekend. It will likely become a major hurricane, category 3 or higher, over the weekend.

As of now, the storm is not forecast to bring any direct impacts to the Caribbean or the United States. High or rough surf will be a concern for the eastern Caribbean, the Bahamas and the east coast of Florida from now into the weekend.
