LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A bill that aims to lower heating costs during the winter is on its way to the Michigan State House.

It passed out of the Senate with 32 yes votes. Five lawmakers didn’t vote.

The bill would make updates to how the state makes its annual inflation adjustment for the home heating tax credit

That adjustment would instead be based on the Consumer Price Index.

It measures the average change over time in the prices paid.
