The West Michigan Whitecaps, who have dominated the Midwest League this season, flexed their muscle in an 8-3 win over the TinCaps on Thursday in front of 6,567 fans at Parkview Field.
West Michigan struck out 13 batters, led by right-hander Hayden Minton’s (5-2) seven strikeouts in six innings. The right-handed duo of Freddy Pacheco and Dariel Fregio combined to strike out six batters without giving up a hit over three innings of relief.
“The two relievers they threw were probably two of the best relievers, at least tonight, that we’ve seen all year,” TinCaps manager Lukas Ray said. “That was pretty impressive. We kept competitive at-bats. At the end of the day, the results weren’t there, but it was cool to see guys kind of scrap back.”
