SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - We’re tracking Tropical Storm Erin around the clock, and while you’re sleeping, it could become the Atlantic’s first hurricane of the season. By the time you wake up Friday, Erin may already have that title, with forecasters expecting it to rapidly intensify into a Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 140 mph by late this weekend.
Tropical Storm Erin continues to strengthen
Tropical Storm Erin is gaining strength in the central Atlantic tonight, now packing maximum sustained winds of 70 mph at the Thursday evening 11pm update. The National Hurricane Center says Erin will likely become a hurricane by early Friday morning and a large, formidable major hurricane by this weekend.
