LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Laredo police officer shot a 29-year-old man early Friday, August 15, after he approached officers with a knife, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Olive and Valencia streets, according to the Laredo Police Department.

Preliminary information indicates the man displayed a knife and moved toward officers before one officer opened fire, police said. It was not immediately clear how many times the officer fired.

The man was taken to a hospital and remains alive, according to police.

Before the shooting, the man had reportedly been involved in at least three other incidents, including attacking someone with a bottle and attempting to enter a vehicle, police said.
