BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority officially closed the Mount Hope Bridge for the weekend Thursday night at 7.
It will remain closed until Monday, August 18 at 5 in the morning.
RITBA will be resurfacing the roads along the bridge and it will be closed to all traffic.
The new road surface is expected to last until 2030.
However, RITBA said they’re looking towards a “re-decking” project for the bridge, which was last done in 1985.
For drivers, RITBA said use Route 195 and Route 24 through Fall River.
RIPTA will be detouring both Route 60 and 61X until the end of service Sunday.
This will intercept direct service to Newport from Providence on the Route 60 line, which RIPTA said Routes 14 and 24-L should replace.
