At 32 years old, Trevor Story is the oldest everyday position player on the Boston Red Sox. He’s surrounded by rookies and players considerably younger than him, including Roman Anthony (21), Marcelo Mayer (22) and Ceddanne Rafaela (24).
One of those players is Jarren Duran, who’s four years younger than Story at 28. While that may not seem like a big difference, Duran was only a freshman in college when Story made his Major League debut for the Colorado Rockies in 2016.
With a decade of MLB experience, Story has emerged as a veteran leader for his younger teammates. Accordingly, the way he views his relationship with Duran isn’t too surprising.
In a joint Players on Players interview for MLB Players’ Weekend, Story described his relationship with Duran as “father-son.”
“Obviously,
